Hello and welcome to my site. I’m thrilled to bits you’re here.
Who am I?
My name is Lucy Watson and for the past two decades I’ve been a television journalist and newsreader, reporting around the world. From North Korea to New York, in hurricanes and cyclones, on red carpets and in royal palaces, my eyes have seen a lot. I have experienced incredible, world events and historic moments, but it is the people I’ve met, and the effect they’ve had, that’s worth talking about most. Whether movie stars or politicians, presidents or terrorists, every one has made their mark, and given me a memory. Now, I’d like to share them.
Where am I?
Home is Hackney, East London. Work is wherever I’m sent.
Why am I writing?
Have you ever had a conversation that’s changed your way of thinking, been amazed at a stranger’s openness, or been moved by someone else’s story, enough to change your own?
I have been transported to places around the globe and into the lives of others I never imagined I’d meet. I have heard their remarkable tales, unexpected stories and listened to their first-hand accounts, as they’ve lived through war, conflict, trauma, heartache, happiness and joy. It is because of them that I think I understand pain, suffering, life and death that bit better. It is also because of them that I am a more compassionate, more forgiving, braver and more interesting woman.
There have been conversations that have stopped me in my tracks, situations that have forced me to leap into the unknown, and moments that have reduced me to tears, because I’ve been up close. I’ve been allowed to live it, see it, feel it, touch it.
I won’t give you news articles. I can’t give you soundbites.
But, I can give you my reflections on what I saw, what I thought and how I felt at the time.
